I had an awesome friday night: one of the best drum and bass experiences I've ever had, easily the best since leaving London.
Hospital records underground at phoenix on oxford street, Cyantific & Logistics headlining. The venue packed, the vibe very friendly, and me, knowing next to no-one there had a riot. And everyone there had a single-minded purpose: dance. Every horizontal surface became part of the dancefloor, the whole room had this electric atmosphere. And it was great to hear all the old Hospital classics, and a lot of their unreleased/whitelabel stuff as well.
Personal highlight of the evening, played during Cyantific's midnight set:
Shinichi Osawa - Star Guitar (Brookes Brothers Remix) -- sounded absolutely unreal, lifted the room.
Riding home at 3am was less awesome: Light rain falling throughout the evening made the roads a little slippery and I was more than a little drunk, making for a terrible combination on the corner of Redfern and Elizabeth streets. The wheels slid out fromunder me as I was turning the corner, and I fell very awkwardly, headfirst into the pavement, slid across the intersection and into the gutter. Luckily no-other cars around. The bike is ok, I'm a bit grazed and sore, and the helmet has broken into a number of pieces, the impact shattered it. it was a good thing I was wearing it.
